MAGIC MOMENTS!
A little while ago I helped a good friend of mine and his business partner come up with a tag line for Bianca Jewelers, their brand new store. While it seems obvious the type of service and products they offer, we wanted to stay away from statements that would just repeat the obvious and rather tap into the very reason people usually visit a jewelry store. It's about the special people in our lives and the magic moments we want to share and celebrate with them. "Magic Moments" instantly resonated with my friend Keith Greene and his business partner Challo Stud, and has since become their store's tag line. More than a tag line, it became the differentiation factor in presenting Bianca Jewelers apart from all of the stores that offer similar types of products and services. Our intent is to build the store's brand based on this phrase and all its possible emotional and psychological connections.
I began thinking of the magical moments we experience from time to time...they do add a sense of joy and wellness to our hearts. Can you think of recent experiences that you cherish enough and would love to be able to bottle up as you would a perfume, so that you can from time to time open it to smell the beautiful scent? I'll share one that I experienced recently.
My son, Lucas (11) started talking about wanting to learn the saxophone about 2 years ago. I remember distinctly being in the car with him and hearing a sax artist on a jazz station. He loved the song, remembered the artist’s name and later researched him on the net. Steve Cole, out of Chicago, inspired my son through one tune, (Spin), played over the radio. I enjoyed seeing him interested in the idea, but thought it may be just a temporary fad that will go away within days or weeks. Since he kept asking about the possibility of taking lessons, we went to a music store and inquired about it. We were advised that it would be best if we waited for about another year since at that time he was only 9. To my surprise he never stopped talking about it, he kept researching, and stayed interested in anything that had to do with a saxophone. Within one year my son had saved 1/3 of the money he needed to buy a saxophone. Yes, he did sell lemonade during hot summer days to earn the money. Last September he proudly purchased his saxophone. Since then he’s been taking classes and loving it.
This summer Steve Cole toured and stopped in Walnut Creek, California. Lucas and I drove there to see him. At my son’s insistent requests we got there 5 hours before the concert to “make sure we get good seats!” We did! First row! Lucas met Steve and had a chance to talk with him. Lucas carried his saxophone with him at the concert because he wanted Steve Cole to sign his case. He was so excited to be in the first row and hear Steve play; he was glued to his seat hours before the concert started. After the concert, they spoke again and he got Steve’s autograph on his CD. By the end of the day, Lucas was beaming with joy! Driving back he looked at me and said, “Thanks dad for doing this for me! I won't ever forget this day!” I cannot describe how that made me feel, it was definitely a “magic moment!”
Take a look at some pictures that captured the evening and hear the song that inspired my son to learn the saxophone.
Hope you have many magic moments this year! I would like to hear about your “magic moments!” Send me a line, and stay in touch!
